Who are we?

Sense-Ability is a co-operative between two training businesses run by Martin McLean and Anna Lickley. Both are profoundly deaf, degree educated, enthusiastic and committed to disability issues and empowering disabled people.

Both possess teaching qualifications and have experience teaching British Sign Language and providing Deaf Awareness Training. Being deaf, they are knowledgeable in issues relating to deafness. They have experience of working with disabled people and take great interest in the wider spectrum of issues related to disability.

Martin McLean

Martin McLeanMartin has a degree in Genetics. In 2002, he researched and produced an information project on Deafness and Genetics, which he gave a series of lectures to universities and schools. In July 2004, Martin achieved a PGCE in Post-16 Education and has over two years of experience developing teaching materials and delivering training. He has worked in Coleg Sir Gar, Carmarthenshire as a lecturer supporting students with specific learning difficulties and has carried out student retention research for the University of Wales, Lampeter. Part of the research meant identifying possible reasons for disabled students abandoning their studies and providing advice on future improvements.

Anna Lickley

Anna LickleyAnna trained as a Fast-Track graduate trainee after graduating with a degree in French. Fast-Track is a 12-month training scheme, run by Scope, to enable high-calibre graduates with disabilities to reach their potential in the job market. The scheme involves two 6-month work experience placements and 4 week long training modules. Anna has worked at the National Lottery Charities Board as a grants assessor and also at Lloyds TSB Headquarters as a project assistant. As part of this, Anna took part in a consultancy project for Lloyds TSB looking at their graduate recruitment process and offering advice to improve access for disabled people. Since then, she has worked in the Access Unit for Deaf and Disabled Students at the University of Bristol where she gained a wide experience of disability in the Higher Education field. Anna now teaches Sign Language and Deaf Awareness.
