Access Audits

Below you will find some general information on access auditing. For further information about our access auditing service please contact Anna Lickley at anna@sense-ability.co.uk

What are they?

An important tool for getting to know your premises and recognising any barriers for disabled people. Access audits offer a good start to creating an access improvement plan for your organisation.

Who are they for?

The Disability Discrimination Act 2004 includes a duty for nearly all service providers (people providing a service to the public) to provide reasonable adjustments to physical barriers in their premises.

Why are they important?

The Disability Right's Commission's Code of Practice says that organisations are more likely to be able to comply with their duties under the DDA by arranging for an access audit.

Further benefits

There are an estimated 8.5 million disabled people in the UK with £30 billion disposable income per year. It makes sense for any organisation to create a welcoming and accessible environment to these potential customers

Access to buildings matters to disabled people. It is important to be able to make spontaneous decisions and to be included in every day life.

We will:

  • Visit your premises

  • Take measurements, talk to staff and disabled customers (where appropriate) and make observations using BS8300 and other regulations.

  • Write a detailed Observations Report

NB An access audit does not offer solutions but identifies problems
