Course Description Objectives Prices CACDP Course

Are you deaf aware?If you are likely to be in contact with the general public or work with staff who are deaf or hard of hearing then this course is aimed at you. It will focus on some of the key issues relating to deafness, communication tactics and help deepen your understanding of how access for deaf people can be improved. The training is interactive and stimulating and will allow trainees to practice their communication skills. Your tutors are deaf themselves.

This course will be adapted to meet the needs of our clients. For example, if you work in the education sector we may give examples of discrimination and scenarios that could occur in a college, university or school.

This can be held as a full day (5 hours + 1 hour lunch break) or as a half day course (3 hours).

Half Day Course Objectives - trainees will:

- Work on making their commication skills with deaf people more effective
- Learn about differences that exist between deaf people
- Be introduced to British Sign Language
- Discuss the language they use to describe deaf people and their attitudes towards them

Full Day Course Objectives - as half day plus:

- Discuss the barriers deaf people face in different scenarios
- Learn how to work with language service professionals (i.e. interpreters)
- Learn how the Disability Discrimination Act affects the rights of deaf people
- Be introduced to aspects of deaf culture and community

The CACDP Course

If your group are interested in acheiving a nationally recognised qualification in deaf awareness then CACDP unit K101 - Deaf and Deaf Blind Awareness can be provided. The course requires 10 hours of tuition and is assessed externally via a written exam.

If delegates taking this unit also complete unit T101 - Communication Tactics with Deaf and Deafblind people then they will acheive the full CACDP Level 1 Certificate in Developing Awareness and Communication with Deaf and Deafblind People.
