Disability Equality Training
Most
people have limited or no experience of working with or being in contact
with people with disabilities. Their beliefs and attitudes regarding disability
may have been informed by negative perceptions or incorrect assumptions.
This course aims to help people expand their understanding of disability
and to challenge attitudes to disabled people, looking also at the potential
implications of the Disability Discrimination Act.
This course will be adapted to meet the needs of our clients. For example, if you work in the education sector we may give examples of discrimination and scenarios that could occur in a college, university or school.
This can be held as a half day (3 hours) or full-day course (5 hours + one hour for lunch). A comprehensive handout pack will be given to each trainee.
Half Day Course Objectives -trainees will:
- Be introduced to the social model of disability

Examine attitudes towards disabled people

Receive practical information on improving access
to people with a range of disabilities
Full Day Course Objectives - as half day plus:
- Learn
how the Disability Discrimination Act affects them
- Examine ways they could improve access to disabled people in their
field of work

Disability and Deaf Awareness Combination
For this full day training session general disability equality training is delivered during the first half of the day and is followed by a session on deaf awareness in the afternoon. The half day objectives for deaf awareness training and those seen above are met. This option costs £329.
