Residential Intensive Level 1 Courses in Sign Language Summer 2009
Dates
There will be two courses this summer: They will commence at 6pm on the first day, giving students time to travel to Clynfyw. The course will be complete by early afternoon on the final day.
This course is aimed at beginners. No prior experience of sign language is required. We will teach the CACDP Level One Curriculum, giving students the opportunity to achieve (via an exam) the Level One Certificate in BSL, a nationally recognised qualification. The course consists of three units: Unit 101 - Introduction to BSL: Unit 102 - Conversational BSL: Unit 103 - BSL at Work:
The course will start on the Saturday evening and finish on the Saturday afternoon of the following week. Altogether the course will involve 42 hours of tutition in a training room from two deaf tutors. A typical day during the course will be as follows:
Activities outside of classes will be organised and students will be given free time to explore local surroundings and sights. Click here to read about the 2006 course held in July
You have the option of taking this course with three CACDP assessments (one for each unit). If you pass all three assessments you will be awarded the Level One Certificate in British Sign Language. This is a nationally recognised qualification and will allow you to move on to Level Two. The assessments involve a conversation with the tutor that will be videoed with the tape then being sent off to CACDP for marking/validation. These will take place during the course as follows: Unit 101 - Day 3 If you are unsuccessful in passing all three units, you can still acheive certification for the units you successfully completed and re-take a unit assessment at a later date.
The classes will be held in an annexe building on the site. There is plenty of space for car parking. If travelling over by train, the nearest station is Carmarthen. A free pick-up from the station can be arranged for those who arrive before 4pm.
The prices of both courses are inclusive of full-board accommodation for the week, regular refreshments and course materials and are as follows:
*If you wish to stay in a single room there is a supplement of £65.
