CACDP Level 2 BSL Intensive Residential Summer Courses 2010

Book your place today on the Sense-Ability Level 2 Intensive Courses to be held over two weeks this summer in the beautiful surroundings of West Wales.

Dates:

Two identical courses will be held over two one-week blocks:

Course 1

Block 1: Sat 17th July to Sat 24th July 2010

Block 2: Sat 14th August to Sat 21st August 2010

Course 2

Block 1: Sat 24th July to Sat 31st July 2010

Block 2: Sat 21st Aug to Sat 28th Aug 2010

The course will start at 6pm on the first Saturday leaving students with plenty of time to get to Clynfyw. Each of the weekly blocks will complete early afternoon on the second Saturday.

 

The course:

The CACDP Level 2 BSL Curriculum will be followed. Three themes will be covered during the course:

Theme 1 - Everyday Conversation

Theme 2 - Eating and Drinking

Theme 3 - Holidays and Travel

The Signature Assessments

You have the option of taking this course with three Signature assessments. If you pass all three assessments you will be awarded the Level Two Certificate in British Sign Language. This is a nationally recognised qualification and will allow you to progress onto Level 3 or a pre-level 3 course.

Each of the three assessments will take place during second block of the course as follows (dates subject to change):

Unit 201 (Receptive Skills) - Tuesday
Unit 202 (Production Skills) - Friday
Unit 203 - (Conversation Skills) - Second Saturday

If you are unsuccessful in passing all three units, you can still acheive certification for the units you successfully completed and re-take a unit assessment at a later date.

Accommodation:

Clynfyw houseAccommodation will be in twin or single rooms with shared bathrooms at Clynfyw Countryside Centre, a large farm in North Pembrokeshire. Breakfast, lunch and evening meals will be provided. Fresh organic ingredients from the onsite farm will be used. Vegetarians and other special diets can be catered for.

Rooms at Clynfyw
There are six twin rooms for individuals happy to share a room with another course member or couples. If you would prefer not to share a room, there are four single rooms available for those paying a single room supplement. Wheelchair accessible rooms are available.

The classes will be held in a wheelchair accessible annexe building on the site.

There is plenty of space for car parking. If travelling over by train, the nearest station is Carmarthen. A free pick-up from the station can be arranged for those who arrive before 4pm.

The prices of both courses are inclusive of full-board accommodation for the two weeks, regular refreshments and course materials and are as follows:

In order to take this course you must:

- Have acheived the Level One Certificate in British Sign Language or have the equivalent signing skills

- Be able to make time for practice (at least 20 hours) in between the two weekly blocks.

- Be over 18 years of age. Or over 12 years of age and accompanied by a parent or responsible adult.

An application form will be sent out to you and your place will be confirmed upon receipt of the form with a deposit for 50% of the cost of the course and exam.

If a deposit is paid, the remainder must be paid before the course starts.
