Despite its diet of bamboo, the panda has the digestive system of a carnivore. They eat up to 45kg of bamboo every day, and go to the toilet around 40 times a day to get rid of excess waste! Not a great digestive system.

Gut Directed Hypnotherapy

Please ensure you have a medical diagnosis before beginning Gut Directed Hypnotherapy.

How does it work?

IBS is a debilitating bio-psychological condition, exacerbated by stress, anxiety or conflict.

Researched and refined over many decades, Gut Directed Hypnotherapy reduces stress, calms sensitive nerves throughout the gastro-intestinal system, and improves the gut microbiome to reduce the symptoms of IBS.

How was GDH Discovered?

In 1980s, Peter Whorwell, renowned Professor of gastroenterology, discovered hypnotherapy improved IBS symptoms. He developed the Gut Directed Hypnotherapy protocol, and proved that it reduced symptoms like cramping, bloating, diarrhoea and constipation; and lifted anxiety and depression. Positive outcomes were sustained five years later.

Initial Consultation

In the initial consultation, Jane invites you to explore limiting beliefs about your condition, your mindset and motivation to resolve it. Jane explains the process, and takes a full symptom history to create your tailored programme.

Jane works with the metaphor that best describes your experience

What happens in therapy?

Gut Directed Hypnotherapy includes direct suggestions designed to treat IBS. Gut-directed hypnotherapy has also shown promise in addressing functional dyspepsia, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

From the Comfort from Home

Jane reviews what has been good and better since the last session, and helps you explore Best Hopes for the following week. You listen to Jane’s soothing voice deliver the beautifully relaxing Professor Whorwell script with metaphors tailored to your experience.

The Sense-Ability process ensures you work to change negative thoughts, habits and behaviours that impact your IBS, to maximise beneficial outcomes.

Self Hypnosis and Recordings

You listen to your tailored recordings each week, learn self-hypnosis and build a tool kit of somatic (body and mind) techniques to manage stress, anxiety, conflict and mood.

How long does it take?

Typically, Gut Directed Hypnotherapy involves 6 weekly sessions.

Outcomes

When will I see results?

You may see improved outcomes within a couple of weeks, however very good outcomes are common at the end of the six sessions.

Altogether I had four sessions. Coming from a medical profession, I was a total sceptic, however I noticed that my pain levels decreased significantly and now they are at a level where they do not bother me at all during my day-to-day activities. Most days are free free and even if I do have an odd flare-up, Jane has given me a technique to dispel the bloating and it works really rapidly without medications.
